Episode #26: Quarantine Edition | The Peoples Beer with Rodg Little of Oak Park + Theodore Mack Jr. | Adjunct Series
We don't often get to be part of craft beer history, and this episode was one of those occasions. Theodore Mack Sr. purchased the Peoples Brewery in 1970, making him the first African American craft brewery owner - ever. They were well known for their Peoples Beer Lager, which got some serious traction in its day. Now, more than 50 years later, with the help of the team at Oak Park Brewing in Sacramento, the beer is back and better than ever.
We hung out with brewer Rodg Little and Mr. Mack's son, Theodore (Ted) Mack Jr., to find out how they connected, how one turns a recipe from the '70s into a modern beer, we heard Mr. Mack Sr.'s fascinating story of triumph through adversity in detail, and we were fortunate enough to drink the Peoples Beer Lager with two men who are helping the beer world recreate history.
Note: The audio was inconsistent until around the 18-minute mark but it cleared up after that. Stick it out, this was a fascinating episode!
